The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department reminds everyone that when you “change your clocks” you should “check the batteries” in your home smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

The fire department also suggests that if you do get a new alarm, the 10-year sealed battery smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are recommended. Some types of sealed devices may be a bit costly but in the event of a fire incident, the detector sound will greatly alert everyone to get out of the residence or business and to a safer area to meet up. Always remember to call 911 in case of a fire or medical incident.

Always remember: smoke alarms ... don’t live at home without one (or several).
